Policy Development

The Role of Policy

Developing and influencing policy at the national and Australian government levels, in collaboration with Network Members and member state based organisations (SBOs), is one of the major areas of output for AGPN.

The development of effective policy:

  • Defines the role of the Network within the primary health care system
  • Underpins AGPN's capacity to define the national primary health care action agenda from the Network's perspective
  • Strengthens AGPN's governance and leadership role
  • Improves AGPN's representative and advocacy capacity
  • Underpins organisational and network growth by establishing positioning platforms that will attract substantial grant funding to AGPN and the network to undertake primary health care initiatives
  • Guides AGPN's advocacy on health care priority areas

Policy Environment

The medico-political environment for the Network continues to be dynamic, contestable and ever-changing.

An overview of the current policy environment for the Network including the key policies and reviews announced by the Australian Government, an overview of the stances taken by key stakeholders and a brief analysis of the potential implications for the Network is available here.
