Accreditation for the Divisions of General Practice Network

National Quality and Performance System

The Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA) developed a National Quality and Performance System (NQPS) to address the recommendations of the Phillips Review of the role of Divisions of General Practice (2003) and the Government's subsequent response. A key component of the NQPS is quality standards and accreditation of general practice networks, state based organisations (SBOs) and the Australian General Practice Network (AGPN).

Information about accreditation arrangements for the Network, including an information sheet, is available on the Review Implementation Committee Information page on the Department's website at http://www.health.gov.au/internet/wcms/Publishing.nsf/Content/health-pcd-programs-divisions-ricinfo.htm

Accreditation

The Network has a choice in the set of standards used for their accreditation. Additionally, Network Member Organisations which are already accredited or undergoing accreditation will not be disadvantaged. The following accreditation models have been recognised by DoHA for the Network:

Recognition of a list of standards sets for the Network balances the need to allow choice for Network members in their accreditation, while ensuring that accreditation programs used by Network Members have appropriate coverage, standards and processes. Additional models and sets of standards may be added to the list, where the appropriateness of these is demonstrated.

AGPN has completed a comparison of all three standards accredited for use by the Network Member Organisations. Click on following link to download said standards: Accreditation Model Comparison
